A pre-condition for economic growth is peace and stability. Interpeace was established in 1994 by the United Nations to develop innovative solutions to build peace. They have a proven and recognised approach with a 25 year successful track record assisting people in many countries around the world to build lasting peace. Interpeace tailors its approach to each society and ensures that the work is locally driven. Based on their extensive experience in peace building, peace cannot be imported from the outside and must be built from within a society. Today Interpeace has programmes in Latin America, Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Asia where they support more than 21 locally led peacebuilding initiatives. Interpeace maintains a strategic partnership with the UN providing the flexibility to implement activities as the UN or as an independent NGO, depending on the situation in the countries concerned.
Interpeace – Peace Bonds
TGM is working with Interpeace to help them launch a series of Peace Bonds to fund peace building projects. A Peace Bond is similar to a Green Bond in that it is a use of proceeds bond. The use of funds for a Peace Bond include funding post-conflict projects in areas such as health, education, and infrastructure. A Peace Bond would make the UN sustainable development category SDG16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) investable.
Interpeace – Mirabaud Emerging Markets Fund
Another firm working with Interpeace is Mirabaud and a key source of funding for Interpeace comes from the Mirabaud Opportunities Emerging Markets Fund. Mirabaud kindly donate part of their management fees to Interpeace. The Emerging Markets fund is a Fund-of-Funds which combines alternative asset management (hedge funds) with long-only funds (both absolute return oriented and pure traditional). The objective of the fund is to capture the upside potential associated with Emerging Markets while limiting the downside. The latest monthly fact sheet can be found via the following link.
